Who we welcome as new patients

You do not need to be an established patient to be seen for a sudden illness or a minor injury. Adults, teens and children can walk in to either of our two Westmont, IL clinics, and a team led by board-certified physicians will see you. Many people first come in with a sore throat, a sprain or a rash, then decide to stay with us for checkups too.

If you are looking for a doctor to follow you over time, we offer primary care as well. That means yearly checkups, physical exams, vaccines, and ongoing care for conditions such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Our clinic was founded by Dr. Amer I. Alhussaini, MD, a family medicine physician who serves as medical director. Meet the team on our providers page.

Where you start depends on what you need today. The two paths below keep it simple.

What to expect at your first visit

A first visit is easier when you know the steps. Here is how it usually goes, whether you come for urgent care or a first primary care appointment.

  1. Check inTell the front desk you are a new patient. You will share your contact details and show your photo ID and insurance card, or let us know you plan to self-pay.
  2. Fill in your historyYou will be asked about past illnesses, surgeries, allergies and the medicines you take. This helps your clinician make safe choices.
  3. Talk with your clinicianYou describe what brought you in. For primary care, you can also share health goals and long-term concerns.
  4. Exam and testingYour clinician examines you and may order tests, such as a rapid test or lab work, when they are useful. X-ray is available only at our Cass Ave clinic.
  5. Your planYou leave knowing what was found, what to do at home, and when to follow up. We can give you work or school notes on request.

You can read more about each clinic on our locations page, or use the which location tool to pick the one that fits your day.

A wallet, ID, blank insurance card, medication list and keys laid out on a kitchen table

A little preparation saves time at the front desk and gives your clinician a full picture. Our what to bring checklist has a printable version. The short list is:

  • A photo ID, such as a driver's license or state ID
  • Your insurance card, front and back, if you have coverage
  • A list of your current medicines, vitamins and supplements, with doses if you know them
  • Any known allergies to medicines, foods or latex
  • Records from your last doctor, including recent lab results and vaccine records
  • The name of your pharmacy
  • For a child, a parent or legal guardian who can give consent, plus the child's vaccine record

Do not have everything? Come anyway. We can start with what you have, and you can send records afterward.

Changing doctors is common, and you do not need your old doctor's permission. The healthcare.gov glossary describes a primary care provider as the doctor or clinician you see first for most health concerns. Here is a simple way to switch.

  1. Check your plan. Some plans, such as HMOs, ask you to choose a primary care provider from their network. Look on your insurance card or call the number on it.
  2. Call us at (630) 324-6825 to set up your first primary care visit. Tell us you are new to the practice.
  3. Ask your previous doctor's office for a records release form. You sign it, and they send your chart to the new office.
  4. Bring what you have in the meantime. Recent lab results, imaging reports, vaccine records and a medicine list help right away.
  5. Tell your old office you are leaving, and ask whether any tests are still pending.

Under federal law, you have the right to see and get a copy of your own health records, though offices may charge a fee for copies. Records can take time to arrive, so ask early. For the full picture of how primary care works here, see our primary care page.

We work with many major plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Humana, UnitedHealthcare and Medicare. The full list is on our insurance page and our cost and insurance page. No insurance, or prefer not to use it? Self-pay visits start from $125. Read how it works on our self-pay urgent care page, and ask about the cost of any lab test before it is ordered.

If you are on Medicare

Medicare.gov explains that Original Medicare lets you see doctors and other providers that accept Medicare. Coverage details differ by plan, so confirm with us and with your plan before a primary care visit.

If you are in an HMO

HMO plans often require you to pick an in-network primary care provider and may ask for a referral to see specialists. Check your plan's rules before you switch, and call us so we can help you confirm what applies.
