Urgent Care Center of Westmont offers on-site X-ray imaging at our main clinic, 29 N Cass Ave, Ste A, Westmont, IL 60559. X-ray is available only at this Cass Ave location. Our second location, Immediate Care Center of Westmont Inside Jewel-Osco, does not have X-ray, so if you think you need an X-ray, please come to Cass Ave.
An X-ray uses a small amount of radiation to create pictures of bones and some organs. It is commonly used to check for broken bones and pneumonia. Our team is led by board-certified physicians. Walk in or check in online.
Need a heart rhythm check instead? We also perform EKG (electrocardiogram) testing in Westmont, IL. For chest pain, call 911.
MedlinePlus and RadiologyInfo.org (from the American College of Radiology and RSNA) describe common uses:
X-rays have limits. They show bone well but give little detail about muscles, tendons and ligaments. Some fractures do not show up right away. You may need follow-up imaging such as an MRI or CT elsewhere if your clinician suspects a problem the X-ray cannot show.
A clinician first examines you and decides whether an X-ray is needed. You may be asked to remove jewelry or other metal. The X-ray itself is painless. You hold still while a few images are taken, sometimes from different angles.
Tell us if you are or might be pregnant. MedlinePlus advises this before any X-ray. A lead apron may be used to shield parts of the body. The radiation dose from a standard chest X-ray is small, about the same as natural background radiation over roughly 10 days, per MedlinePlus.
After your X-ray, your clinician explains the findings and a treatment plan. That may include home care, follow-up or a referral to a specialist.
