What the State of Illinois program is

The Illinois Department of Central Management Services, known as CMS, runs the State Employees Group Insurance Program, often shortened to SEGIP. Its website says the program provides health, dental, vision and life insurance for full-time and eligible state employees, including the university system, and for eligible dependents. Retirees and annuitants of the five state retirement systems can take part as well.

You can read the overview on the Illinois CMS benefits page.

Which plan is on your card?

State employees pick a plan during enrollment, and the choices can differ by region and by year. Because of that, two coworkers can carry different cards. We will not guess your plan from your job. Look at the card and read the insurer name and plan name.

Illinois CMS says Medicare-eligible members can enroll in TRAIL Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans, which combine medical and drug coverage. Enrollees must keep paying their federal Medicare premium to stay in a TRAIL plan. Medicare Advantage plans are run by private insurers, so rules can differ from Original Medicare.

If that is you, see our Medicare page for background. Then call us with the name on your TRAIL card.
