When results are ready, your provider reviews them with you, explains treatment options when needed, and talks about partner notification and follow-up testing. Chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis can be fully cleared with the right treatment. Herpes and HIV stay in the body, but they can be treated and managed.

If you think you were exposed to HIV in the last 72 hours, seek care right away. The CDC says HIV prevention medicine after exposure (PEP) must be started within 72 hours, and every hour counts. Emergency rooms are open around the clock.
